learning experience today with The Brik.
i tried pitching the brik to small retailers in person and honestly, it did not go that well.
i walked in without appointments, caught people at bad times, and learned pretty quickly that “just showing up with a product” is not really a strategy.
some people were nice. some were definitely annoyed. fair enough.
the biggest thing i learned is that retail sales is its own skill. having a good product is not enough. you need to understand timing, margins, buyers, store fit, and how to make the conversation useful for the retailer.
for anyone in my network who has sold into small retailers, bookstores, boutiques, gift shops, or college stores:
how would you approach this better?
email first?
call first?
walk in with samples?
bring a one-page wholesale sheet?
lead with margins?
lead with the story?
trying to get better at pitching the brik and building actual retail relationships instead of just randomly walking into stores and hoping it works.
